--Information on Artists--

.:: Gregory Crewsdon ::.
Crewsdon's photos have amazing detail in them, which make them look almost like paintings. Almost all his photos have this dark and somber feeling to them. His photos are very haunting because in some of them there is a naked woman randomly standing there. It's like the past is coming back to haunt the figures in the photo. The lighting and the use of cool colors in the photos creates that dark mood even more. At times, the lighting highlights random objects, such as the clothes on the floor. Also, his photos have an emptiness and vacancy to them. Usually there is just one figure in the photo, but if there are more figures they are not really interacting with each other. Overall Crewsdon's photos are very still-looking.

.:: Teun Hocks ::.
Hocks' photos look like illustrations in a children's book. Each of his photos has a storyline. He incorporates humor in many of his photos, which makes the viewer feel more connected with the figure in the photo. The use of warm colors in his work also makes the pieces more inviting to look at. Hocks uses photography and paint together which I find very interesting. There are many similarities in his work such as the use of space and the figure in each photo. Overall Hocks' photos are very enjoyable to look at.

.:: Jeff Wall ::.
Wall's photos are very realistic looking. Most of his photos include landscapes/places with everyday people in them. Sometimes the photos are just the environment by itself. The lighting in his photos are bright unlike the darkness in Crewsdon's photos. His use of color in his photos are miniminal. Most of the colors are neutral. In his landscape photos, there is a similar use of space as in Hocks' photos. Wall's photos are also very interesting because he puts himself in some of them. Overall Wall's photos have more motion and life.

.:: Cindy Sherman ::.
Sherman's photos are mostly black and white. Even if she uses color, it is very miniminal too. Most of her photos are very simplistic. In her photos, she uses herself as the subject like how Wall does in some of his photos too. Her photos seem to have a statement about women and the roles women have. She dresses in different outfits to fit different scenes, which I think is very interesting. I also like the use of lighting, angles, and different color tones in her photos. Overall Sherman's photos are very simple yet effective.

*~My Inspiration~*

I am inspired from many Asian paintings such as this one. I am Asian-American so I like to use my culture in my artworks. I have used my Asian background in my artworks in the past, such as my assemblage sculpture called "Broken Love Chinese Restaurant". I just think this painting is very beautiful especially with the colors being used. Also, the cherry blossoms used in the painting are my favorite flowers. I also love how the cat is sitting on the branch watching the moon. That makes the painting have a very calm and relaxing feeling to it. I will continue using my culture and background in my future artworks :)
